In 2015, members of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals. One of these goals, known as SDG 6, is to  'Ensure access to water and sanitation for all' by 2030.

Unfortunately, the world is not on track to reach this goal. As per the information shared by UN, 4.5 billion people today live without safely managed sanitation and 892 million people still practise open defecation. As the tweet on UN's official handle reads, "More people in the world have phone than toilets"!

World Toilet Day, celebrated on 19th November year, is about taking action to ensure that everyone has a safe toilet by 2030. The celebration has a theme every year, and World Toilet Day 2018 is about toilets and nature.

UN-Water has built a very informative site about this event, and you can jump to that site by clicking on this link.
